T he Man enters who is called the CITIZEN. (We may find a better name for him later.) He is an American Man. He has a certain raw-boned grace about him, as well as an awkward beauty of bone. He is a man who fights when he does not like to fight, simply because he knows he must do so to bring about the things in which he believes. Aaron, I wish this could have some of the quality of the Thoreau journals, simple and straight and possessed of some of the magic of the everyday. –– Martha Graham to Aaron Copland
